Mokihinui Resurgence

The cave diving New Zealand team found the Mokihinui resurgence through geological research by looking at GNS maps and overlaying them on top maps and satellite imagery.

Tom Crisp and Guy Bate hiked to the resurgence in torrential downpour with equipment to do a short recognisance dive. Unfortunately water levels were too high but it was clear there was a dive to be had.

After focusing on other projects. The Mokihinui resurgence was put on hold as there was not enough time to do everything. The CDNZ then handed the project off to The Wet Mules who were in search of something new. Richard Harris, Craig Challen and Ken Smith helicoptered out to the site and explored the cave to 400m distance in very high flow before reaching a restriction which was impassable due to the volume of water. A return trip needs to be made in low water conditions to continue.
